The boys and girls
are introduced to more formal work but the emphasis is still placed on learning
by doing and involvement. We feel it is
important to develop the children as independent learners with enquiring
minds. You will see children working by
themselves or in small groups in the library, researching on a computer and
even working on the floor as well as more whole-class lessons in the classroom.
Good
behaviour and social skills are valued as highly as academic, creative and
physical achievement and all are rewarded in our weekly Celebration
Assemblies. The children gradually take
on more responsibilities and are now "Buddy Band Monitors” at playtimes
represent their classmates on the Pre-Prep School Council, and keep areas such as the library tidy.
Most lessons are
still taught by the classroom specialist although with increasing tuition by subject specialists by the time they leave Pre-Prep. In Year 1 weekly swimming is undertaken at a nearby indoor pool and in Year 2 recorders, ICT and French are taught by members of the Prep School. This, together with
increasing use of Prep school facilities, helps to ensure a smooth transition
into Years 3 to 8.
After school care is provided until 6 o'clock with an exciting programme of activities based on theme nights. In addition there is a range of clubs on offer including cookery, dynamic dance, drama and gymnastics. Further clubs are offered during the lunch period such as choir and hockey on our astroturf pitch.
