Music
The Music Department is housed in a state of the art building which was opened on in 2006. It contains a spacious classroom which is equipped with 10 computers, an interactive whiteboard and classroom instruments, 4 individual teaching/practice rooms and generous storage for pupils’ instruments.
"Music for All" is a fundamental principle of the Department's work. Over two hundred and sixty individual lessons are timetabled each week; many pupils learn one instrument with a significant number studying two or even three. Fifteen visiting instrumental staff form an experienced and dedicated team, and ensemble coaching enables them to share their enthusiasm and expertise with pupils.
Participation in instrumental and choral ensembles, large and small, is encouraged. The School has numerous groups e.g. orchestra, jazz band etc which offer opportunities for pupils to perform in a wide variety of styles, and the Senior and Junior Chapel Choirs maintain the School's strong choral tradition.
All pupils are encouraged to play an instrument of their choice during their years at St. Andrew’s and instrumental tuition is available in a wide variety of instruments – including some of those considered less popular elsewhere. Pupils are prepared for examinations by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and Trinity/Guildhall Music Examinations.
