Overwhelmingly the best facilities for extra-curricular actitivies at St. Andrew's are the grounds and woods. Boys and girls in the Prep School are given the freedom to play or explore the woods during their breaks, often spending their time climbing trees and making dens - real childhood is alive and well at St. Andrew's!
Educational visits are seen as essential to bring the curriculum to life and these are undertaken throughout the School. Pupils have been to a farm, science discovery centre, "the rainforest”, museums, theatres and places of worship. There are also practical days within the School and these include a Roman Day, an Egyptian Day, writers' workshops, drama days, architectural workshop, visiting artists, a Medieval Feast and a battles & archery day.
There are residential trips for science, geography, languages, sport, ski trips and outdoor pursuits. In addition, boys and girls have visited one of our partner schools in South Africa and a number of schools in Europe via a student/staff exchange project run by the European Union.
Within school there are activity lessons and pupils can choose pursuits such as chess, writers' clubs, choir, film club, shooting and design technology. After school clubs include gymnastics, ballet, golf, horse riding, drama and tennis. In recent years the orienteering club has been very successful in the British Schools' Orienteering Championships - in 2012 they were British Prep/Middle Schools Champions.
