Parent Community & FOSA
The sense of community is strong at St Andrew’s. We are a welcoming and social school and there are lot of opportunities for you to feel part of the St Andrew’s family. Our on-site coffee shop (frequented and enjoyed by parents, staff and visitors) was established a few years ago and is always busy, and more recently fitness classes for parents have been organised in the School grounds. There will be lots of opportunities for you to meet other parents, whether it is by supporting school events, attending School balls or playing in parent child sports matches. Your child’s form will have a parent representative and they will put you in touch with other parents in your child’s form, so it will be easy to meet everybody. Further opportunities are also available through F.O.S.A. (Friends of St Andrew’s), our thriving Parents Association.
A message from F.O.S.A.
Our main objective is to provide an opportunity for parents and children to mix and enjoy social occasions whilst raising money for the school to buy non-essential items from which the children will benefit.
All parents, staff and governors (and even a few Year 8 pupils) are members of the Association but there is also a committee. Working for the committee, can be as big or small a commitment as you wish. You may wish to be your child’s form representative (involved in communications and co-ordination of form activities) or just help with a few events. F.O.S.A. meets twice a term to plan events and discuss funding requests. These meetings are often busy but enjoyable.
If you feel you are able to help or would like more information please contact the Chair of F.O.S.A., Amelia Sint Jago at firstname.lastname@example.org
We hold and support a series of events throughout the year, including several long standing favourites, together with some new innovations to keep things fresh and different. Typically, these would be:
- F.O.S.A Quiz Night
- F.O.S.A. Fun Day & Dog Show, a themed event with stalls and fun for all the family
- Fireworks Night, with delicious refreshments and spectacular fireworks!
- F.O.S.A. Christmas Fayre
- Easter egg hunt
- Children’s Christmas Gift Shopping
- Boden biannual Pop up Shop
- Ice-cream selling for Pre-Prep and Senior Sports Day & certain sporting events
- School triennial ball, organised by a Ball Committee section of F.O.S.A.
- St Andrew’s Got Talent Evening
The School Coffee Shop is also supported by committee members and parents. Available for sale here are certain 'St Andrew's' branded items such as umbrellas, Winter beanie hats and travel mugs - all useful on a cold side-line - the proceeds of which go directly into the F.O.S.A. fund.
A F.O.S.A. newsletter reviewing recently held events is issued electronically from time to time. We also co-ordinate a voluntary parent directory for social use which includes form lists, telephone numbers and email addresses. This is revised annually and issued to each family in the Autumn term, further copies of which can be purchased from the School Office.
As a result of our recent fundraising we have purchased a wide range of items, for the benefit of children throughout the School. All of the items purchased are requested by various departments and are first approved by the Headmaster before being submitted to F.O.S.A.
We have been able to provide the School with topic boxes, digital cameras and outdoor furniture for the Pre-Prep, Geography and History aids, a gas BBQ, cricket and orienteering tops for the prep school and a Nintendo Wii system plus bean bags for the boarders.
Also donated were a collection of fine china mugs used for parents’ refreshments at match teas and most recently an entire outdoor classroom situated in the woods fully equipped with learning resources and toilet! Our reach has even extended to an educational visit with live reindeer teaching children of all ages different aspects of animal care.
Parents have also kindly collected and given us vouchers from Sainsbury’s Active Kids, Tesco for Schools and Clubs, and Nestle cereal box tops which have enabled us to buy many more items for the school such as sports equipment, a seated canopy and numerous fiction and non-fiction books. These vouchers are worth around £1,000 per annum so please keep collecting!
A full list of the current committee and the form reps is available in the F.O.S.A. Directory.
We look forward to seeing you at events in the future.
